About Us

Welcome To JDU

Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa was established as a result of the transformation of the Jan Długosz University of Humanities and Sciences in Częstochowa. This important event for the entire academic community took place on June 1, 2023 and was made possible thanks to the act of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland signed by the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda on May 1, 2023. However, the history of the University reaches deeper into the past, to 1971. At that time, thanks to the decision of the Council of Ministers, the Higher Teacher Training School in Częstochowa was established. In 1974, it was transformed into the Higher Pedagogical School in Częstochowa. University employees who remember this historic event for the city emphasize that the establishment of a higher humanities school at that time was of great importance for the developing city. It was even said to be a precedent at that time, because at that time universities with a technical profile of education were much more willing to be established. Graduates received the first diplomas of completion of vocational pedagogical studies in 1973. The first master's degrees were issued by the authorities of the Pedagogical University of Częstochowa in 1977. Another important event in the history of the University was the change of the name of the Pedagogical University of Częstochowa to the Jan Długosz Academy in Częstochowa, which took place on October 1, 2004. Experiencing dynamic development in almost all areas, almost fourteen years later, the University changed its name to the Jan Długosz University of Humanities and Natural Sciences in Częstochowa (June 1, 2018). Let's go back to the beginnings of the Teacher Training School in Częstochowa, which, it must be admitted, were modest. The University began its operations with two faculties: Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Pedagogy. In 1974, the staff of the Pedagogical University consisted of 90 research and teaching staff. This group included 12 associate professors and 10 doctors. Over the 50 years of its existence, the University has developed significantly and grown in strength. It currently consists of five faculties: Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Natural and Technical Sciences, Law and Economics, and Art. The structure of the University also includes the Collegium Medicum im. dr. Władysław Biegański, which was established as a result of changing the name of the previously existing Faculty of Health Sciences. It was established thanks to the decision of the Senate of April 26, 2023, and began operating on June 1, 2023. The structure of UJD also includes inter-faculty units: the Foreign Languages Study and the Physical Education and Sports Study. In the summer of 2023, by decision of the European Education and Culture Executive Agency in Brussels (EACEA), Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa was granted the status of a European University. Only a small group of Polish universities can boast such a success. In the opinion of the rector's authorities, this will further deepen the internationalization of UJD and increase its recognition in Europe and around the world. On October 30, 2023, the Council of the European University Association approved the University's application for admission to the group of full members of the EUA (Individual Full Member). On January 25, 2024, the University joined the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities (KRUP). The University Library is the University's treasury. Its collections consist of over 370,000 items. They include books, periodicals, documents and other units classified as special collections. The Library's employees conduct extensive activities aimed at popularizing reading. These include, among others: exhibitions devoted to issues related to the region, its history and culture. The University entered the academic year 2024/2025 with over 60 fields of study (offering first and second cycle studies, uniform master's studies, including studies ending with the title of engineer and dual). It is certainly worth emphasizing that the University obtained the consent of the Ministry of Education and Science to launch a medical program (July 14, 2022) and conducted recruitment for the first year of studies! Another important event influencing the expansion of the educational offer was obtaining consent to launch uniform master's studies in pharmacy (May 8, 2023). The potential and prestige of the University were significantly strengthened as a result of the announcement of the evaluation results and the high categorization ratings obtained as a result. Out of 13 evaluated disciplines: 6 obtained category A, 7 received B+. This success enabled efforts to change the name of the University, from the so-called University of "adjectival" to "classical" which allowed the establishment of the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa. The university offers education in the Doctoral School in 13 disciplines: chemistry, philosophy, physics, history, linguistics, literary studies, pedagogy, musical arts and fine arts and conservation of works of art, as well as sciences: law, health, safety, and physical culture. The Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa offers candidates and students almost 35 forms of postgraduate studies and numerous courses and trainings. The strength of the University is demonstrated by its staff. In the academic year 2024/2025, Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa employs nearly 790 people. This group includes nearly 540 academic teachers. Nearly 180 people are classified as independent research and scientific employees. Among them, there is a group of 64 people who boast diplomas of titular professor. An important element of the perception and classification of each university is the international cooperation conducted by the University. In this case, our University can boast of a rich achievement. To date, agreements on cooperation have been concluded with research centers from several countries. The effect is the exchange of staff, students and doctoral students. Bilateral agreements are implemented, scientific research is jointly financed. The University improves the quality of education. It equips students - future graduates - with skills that allow them to find attractive employment. Students have the opportunity, among others. take advantage of free foreign language courses (including so-called rare languages), they can study dual courses (carried out in cooperation with employers) or improve their education process by using the latest methods, e.g. tutoring or online.
